The annual International Best Brochure Awards were introduced in 1993.
The Best Brochure Awards recognize excellence in the design of brochures and rack cards for the travel industry. Eligible nominees come from the roster of approximately 7,000 brochures and rack cards that are distributed by the International Association of Professional Brochure Distributors' member companies each year. Winners of the coveted awards include both large and small tourist attractions and destinations from across North America and Ireland.
Each Association member nominates two brochures and one rack card annually. Nominations are circulated to, and voted on, by senior executives of the member companies prior to the Association's Annual General Meeting. Winners are announced at the meeting each fall.
In order to recognize the most important features of brochure and rack card design for effective on-site display, voting criteria are as follows:
Is there a clear heading in the top third of the brochure when displayed vertically? Is there also a heading on the reverse side?
How well is it constructed - does it fold well (brochures)? Is the paper weight sufficient so it doesn't flop forward when displayed?
How well does it read? Is there a map, directions, a phone number, a way to contact the organization?
How well are photos and graphics used? Does it deliver the message? Does it elicit a call to action?
